Description

This set of Victorian style Acme shutter hinges contains enough hardware for one window (2 left hand hinges, 2 right hand hinges and two sill mounted catches). Unlike surface mounted straps, they are mortised into the edge of the shutter and the inside edge of the wooden window casement (much like a fancy interior door hinge).

Mass produced by Lull & Porter in the mid-nineteenth century, the Acme hinge features a patented locking pintle design. When fully open or closed the shutter locks into place, preventing lift-off from strong winds. The outer leaf also rises slightly when opening, keeping the shutter panel from scraping and binding against the sill. When needed, the shutters are easily lifted off without removing the hardware. Made of heavy duty cast iron, these hinges must be painted on all sides and surfaces prior to installation (please note: screws are not included).

Dimensions (each hinge): 3 3/4" W x 2 1/2" H. Throw (distance between the two mortised sections when fully open): 2". When selecting the proper hinge size for your window, allow a minimum 1" clearance between the shutter and the surface of wall for ventilating purposes.
