Description

The 2007 edition of the ASME A17.1, "Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators" codified this key, designated "FEO-K1", as the universal standard key for firefighters emergency operation. The rationale was that a standardized elevator fire service key would reduce emergency response time. Although the 2012 edition of the NFPA-1 Fire Code conflicts with this standard, it is still extremely common and still required in many jurisdictions that have not adopted the 2012 NFPA-1 requirements. (All elevators installed since 2007 code except some states). NOTE: This is the common or "clockwise" FEO-K1 key.
