According to historical records, the Old Testament of the Bible was likely referring to the Boswellia serrata variety of Frankincense when it is mentioned. Frankincense, along with gold and myrrh, was included in the gifts presented by the wise men to the infant Christ in the Bibles New Testament. It was first introduced in church ceremonies during the early years of Christianity in Europe. Frankincense-Serrata has a clean and citrus aroma that contains many of the same therapeutic and medicinal uses that the other varieties of Frankincense do. It has many anti-bacterial, anti-depressant and analgesic properties. Frankincense-Serrata can help clear bronchitis, congestion and coughs. It also provides potent skincare benefits for acne and oily skin. Frankincense is harvested by making small incisions in the bark of the aromatic tree, producing a milky white resin that hardens as it dries. The collected resin is separated into grades and stored in caves to cure before being sold. The resin is put through a steam distillation process to capture the essential oil.
