The striking white tiger of South Asia is not an albino, nor does it constitute a distinct subspecies of tigers. White tigers are ordinary tigers with a genetic condition that makes their coloration paler. Many people enjoy the awesome beauty of these rare creatures from their striking blue eyes to their distinctive pink noses. A white tiger can be born from two darker Bengals that carry the appropriate recessive gene. Only a dozen or so of these magnificent creatures have been spotted in the wild over the last 100 years.
