Description

The Eastern HemisphereWorld Cultures- Africa- Asia- Europe- Snake Charmer- Man Smoking a Hookah- Nomads- Camel- Elephant- Lions- European Queen- Costume Issued 1855 Boston by Ballou's PictorialWood engraving art for mass distribution via printed paper media 150 years ago. A visually appealing antique wood-engraved newspaper print. It is an original 150 year old pictorial sheet extracted from a scarce 19th century popular weekly illustrated periodical. Offered for the historical interest of the topic as well as the modern appeal of the printed image. The visual presentation is unique to the era and this type of printed newsprint image using methods and machinery now long vanished and extinct. Looks like nothing being produced today. In Good [or better] condition: displays uniform age toning as typical for this age image. There may be light scattered spotting, possibly small minor edge splits now repaired on the back with small pieces of archival tape. Any surface defects or nicks/ blank margin issues may hopefully be clearly seen in the scanned image. Please examine the scan closely as the picture forms part of the description, so please take a close look. There is a zoom feature, so you can see the entire printed surface remarkably close up. There is text/ possibly other images on the back because it was extracted from an illustrated newspaper from the mid-19th century. Great fun very interesting to examine both sides. Overall, the main image area remains very attractive, the entire sheet like a snapshot into another era-unquestionably an appropriate old image for framing. [note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws]. The type of 150 year old wood-pulp based paper used by the periodical in this era is now a little delicate and needs to be handled a bit carefully Great, unique old printed image entirely worthy of presenting to someone as a present or hanging for display. Sheet measures c. 14 5/8" H x 10 3/8" W. Printed
