Ben runs a failing circus. He cant even afford the wages. A new man appears on the scene (Herbert Lom). Hes a strange and dark man with the gift of hypnotism. Bens brother is the main attraction, a trapeze artist. The new man hypnotizes Anne Crawford, so that she can take to the trapeze without fear and soon she does her masters bidding.

The show becomes a huge success, but the circus members take a dislike to the new man. They begin to plot.

Herbert Lom gives the performance of a lifetime in his dark and sinister role. A true classic.
