The Showman & The Hero follows Hollywood producer Jesse L. Lasky's 20-year quest to make a movie about World War I hero, Sergeant Alvin C. York. Produced by film historian Dr. John White, it is a collaboration involving Emmy-award-winning filmmakers Don Hooper and Craig Tollis, as well as, historian and York scholar Dr. Michael Birdwell of Tennessee Tech. The DVD includes rare color film footage of both Lasky and York.
