SEVEN NEEDLES- Each felting tool contains 7 barbed felting needles of a medium gauge. The tool is great for both adults and kids alike as the needles are protected using a plastic shutter case which raises and falls with the jabbing motion so you don't have to worry about pricking your fingers! The locking guard is also perfect for protecting the needles when stored.
APPLIQUE- One of the best ways to use this tool is for applique. The needles are of a medium gauge so they will not leave you work full of holes like some thicker barbed needles. Simple place the felt applique on top of the desired material and gently use the tool to mesh the fibres together for a seamless, no-sew finish! No glue or thread required.
HOW IT WORKS- Felting needles are designed to entangle the fibres by repeating the push/pull jabbing motion with the needles. Each needle has a barbed edge to catch the fibres and more them around so they join. Hand felting requires a lot of skill at this technique because if the needle tool is not used in a straight up and down motion, the needles can break- especially if you are new to the craft. Our felting tool is great to try and avoid breakages as it is durable and strong.
The Brush-like mat enables smooth punching with little resistance, and allows the fibers of the appliue to become well meshed with the basic fabric. Place the applique over the basic fabric and pierce lightly with the Felting Needle Tool. The fibers will become interlaced,attaching the motif to the fabric beautifully.
