Description

Blue cohosh is most commonly used for helping to ease muscle spasms, cramps and to calm the nerves. This herb also supports the memory.

Blue cohosh has mild diuretic effects, helping to flush excess fluids from the body and this may also benefit a bladder infection. Women benefit doubly from blue cohosh, as it supports menstrual health and helps increase menstrual flow.

Lastly, some women use blue cohosh to benefit childbirth. It may help induce labor or help a stalled labor because it stimulates uterine contractions. And some women use blue cohosh during their last few weeks of pregnancy to help "tone up" the uterus, making childbirth smoother. (Do not use blue cohosh during your first or second trimester of pregnancy. Consult your licensed doctor or midwife before using any supplements during pregnancy.)

Blue cohosh contains the following nutrients and phytochemicals:
Beta-carotene, anagyrine, caulophylline, caulophyllosaponin, caulosaponin, hederagenin, phytosterols, saponin, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, zinc, vitamins B1, B2, B3, and C.*
