3. The Lab Rat Chronicles: A Neuroscientist Reveals Life Lessons from the Planet's Most Successful Mammals

Description

Discover What Rodents Know About the Good Life

What can the common laboratory rat tell us about being human? According to behavioral neuroscientist Kelly Lambert, a whole lot. Her twenty- five-year career conducting experiments that involve rats has led her to a surprising conclusion: Through their adaptive strategies and good habits, these unassuming little animals can teach us some essential lessons about how we, as humans, can lead successful lives. From emotional resilience and a strong work ethic to effective parenting and staying healthy, the lab rat is an unlikely but powerful role model for us all.

This is a surprising and engaging guided tour into the sophisticated mental, emotional, and behavioral worlds of these frequently maligned and often misunderstood little creatures.

5. Motivation: Biological, Psychological, and Environmental

Description

This textbook provides a complete overview of motivation and emotion, using an overarching organizational scheme of how biological, psychological, and environmental sources become motivationthe inducement of behavior, feelings, and cognition. It combines classic studies with current research and uses numerous real-world examples to engage the student and make often-difficult theoretical concepts come to life. By understanding and applying the principles of motivation described in the text, students will not only discover insights into what motivates their own behavior but also how to instigate self-change.

Thoroughly revised and updated throughout, this fifth edition provides a major review of recent research, with over 225 new references, including expansion in the areas of goal motivation and emotion psychology. Other updated topics include new findings and interpretations on how evolution affects our preferences, how personality traits determine motivation, and how self-control depends on a cost/benefit analysis. The addition of individual chapter glossaries and an increased number of links to additional resources supplement student learning. This textbook is suitable as a primary text for courses on motivation.

Menschen, Ratten,Psychologen

Was knnen uns ganz gewhnliche Laborratten ber das Menschsein verraten?

10. The impact of variable flow rate system on pesticide dose transfer: Pesticide dose- transfer processes Variable flow rate application System Biological efficacy, insects resistance

Feature

The Impact of Variable Flow Rate System on Pesticide Dose Transfer

Description

the outcome of our results are very important in that we provide basic information about the impacts of using one of the recent and sophisticated pesticide application technologies. Also, these results can help growers predict the results of using specific insecticides, with adjustments in nozzles, application rates, etc and their impacts in terms of biological efficacy, and finally the long-term implications of the development of resistance under different deposition scenarios. These "as needed adjustments" still depend generally on the timely flow of accurate in-field information on pests as they develop in individual fields. Lacking such information, growers will continue to rely on the familiar strategy of "treat all fields the same". Finally, I think this study provides good evidence and support for the needs to expand this approach with different pests, chemicals, and equipment under field conditions.

Feature

Drug Interaction and Biological Studies of Amantadine Derivatives

Description

Amantadine an antiviral, antiparkinsonian drug has cage like basic structure it is a colorless, crystalline compound with a camphor-like odor. The interactions of amantadine with ACE-inhibitors, cephalosporins, essential and trace elements, H1-receptor antagonists, H2-receptor antagonists, NSAIDs and quinolones was investigated in 0.1 N HCl. Amantadine complexes were synthesized with all interacting drugs and characterized by UV, FTIR, 1H-NMR and mass spectroscopy. The energy minimization study was carried out to determine the binding site of amantadine and along with these studies, metal complexes of amantadine with (Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Ca, Mg, Cr, Co, Ni, and Cd) were synthesized. The structures of these complexes were confirmed by IR, NMR, CHN elemental analysis and AA spectroscopy. Antiviral studies of amantadine-drug complexes evaluated through National institute of Infectious Diseases, USA in Southern Research Institute Maryland, USA. Against Biodefence viruses (Rift Valley Fever, Tacaribe, VEE, Yellow Fever), Respiratory viruses ( RSV A, Adeno, PIV, Rhinovirus Type 2, RSV A, Flu A (H1N1), Flu A (H3N2), Flu A (H5N1), Flu B, SARS),Herpes viruses (HSV-1, HSV-2, HCMV, VZV, EBV).

13. Stepfamilies Surviving the Death of a Biological Parent: Relationships of Stepparents and Adult Stepchildren

Feature

Stepfamilies Surviving the Death of a Biological Parent

Description

Over the past two decades, the stepfamily and other non-traditional families have become an integral part of society. This is mostly due to the high divorce and remarriage rate, which results in the combining of two previously separate families. This book shares a stepfamilys journey from its beginning to the death of a biological parent and beyond. It tells how and why the stepfamily survived and their relationships strengthened. Modern theoretical approaches and philosophical frameworks guide the story of the stepfamily, and capture the lives of the members as individuals and as a family unit. For professionals and students in the field of counseling, this book provides interpretations for the building of future theories to explain the studied phenomenon. Further, the book informs professionals of a stepfamilys dynamics, thereby, providing direction for clinical interventions. Moreover, this book can be useful for persons who want to strengthen and/or maintain the relationships of the family unit after the death of a family member.

14. Foster and Biological Parenting

Feature
