Description

The built-in Digital to Analog Audio decoder can support digital audio format up to DTS 5.1CH and Dolby Digital 5.1CH / AC3 audio format. This switch does NOT support higher 5.1CH formats such as Dolby Digital Plus and HD audio formats.

So using Amazon FireTV as an example: go to settings, Display & Sounds, Audio, then "Dolby Digital Over HDMI"; then the FireTV will output audio in Dolby Digital 5.1CH / AC3 format when watching shows with the selected sound track, the optical output goes to an AV receiver that supports DD 5.1CH, the analog outputs can be connected to stereo headphone at the same time, because the built-in decoder can support Dolby Digital to stereo conversion.
